The national convention
is the most popular trip for any FFA Chapter. Woodbury is no
exception. The Woodbury FFA has broken records over the past few
years including sending five SAE proficiency award national finalists and
11 career development event teams to the national convention in 2002.
The convention is held every year during the last
week of October.
Many
students, teachers, parents and community members made up the delegation
from Woodbury. We fly down on a Tuesday and return the next
Saturday. From 1928 through 1998 the National Convention was held in
Kansas City, Missouri, until the city was unable to accommodate the
growing FFA. In 1999, the National Convention moved to Louisville,
KY and stayed through 2005. In 2006, the event was moved, this time to Indianapolis, Indiana, the new
home of the National FFA Headquarters. The Convention attracts
approximately 50,000 people. There are many activities at the
Convention which include participating in the National FFA band, chorus, talent show,
as well as workshops to improve leadership skills. One other very
popular part of the national convention is the career and
trade show.
