The FFA

The FFA is one of the three major parts of the agricultural education program.  The FFA is a national organization that binds all agricultural education instruction together.  Without the FFA there could not be local Ag Ed programs because the FFA provides so much to the students, as well as giving them challenges to strive to meet.  This is done through various contests, selected awards, scholarships, and many other national, state and local FFA programs.

The Woodbury FFA is one of the nation's premier FFA chapters with 100% active membership of over 250 members.  We are part of District I in Connecticut which also includes Wamogo High School in Bantam, Northwestern Regional High School in Winsted, and Housatonic Valley Regional High School in Falls Village.  In 2002, we set a record by sending 11 teams to the national convention and having five SAE proficiency award national finalists.  In 2003, the Woodbury FFA published the first ever in the country FFA yearbook.  This will be replacing our chapter scrapbook.  The FFA yearbook in 2003 was hardcover and has 72 full color pages.  Many people were amazed by what the FFA was able to produce and keep doing year after year.  Also, in the Spring of 2003, the Woodbury FFA was notified by the National FFA that we had been selected to be filmed for a PBS special on agricultural education.  A filming crew was in Woodbury for two days and filmed classes in action, some outstanding SAE's, and a graduate's success story.  This started airing nationally at the 2003 National Convention and is currently used as a recruiting tool as well.
