I was born in Wolcott in 1968 (you can do the math). I graduated from
Wolcott High School. I entered the University of Connecticut thinking
that I wanted to be a Vo-Ag teacher. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree
in Agriculture, majoring in Horticulture. The day after college
graduation I started a full year intensive program for college graduates that
enabled me to be certified to teach agriculture. While I was teaching and
raising a family I completed my Masters Degree in Educational Leadership
at
Central Connecticut University. I am now very interested in how
technology can be used to enhance student performance and am looking into
some classes in educational technology.
My agricultural experience
began in High School when I owned and operated my own lawn care business. I
then took a position as an
assistant grower at a greenhouse in Cheshire, CT and maintained plants at
a greenhouse in Cromwell, CT. Just prior to my first teaching job I was
the assistant propagator at White Flower Farm in Litchfield, CT.
I have been teaching Ag-Science and Technology since 1993. I taught
for two years at Killingly High School in Danielson, CT. After that
I spent 4 years at WAMOGO Regional High School (Region 6)
in Litchfield, CT. Since then I have found my home here at Nonnewaug High
School where I have been teaching since 1999. In all of my positions I
have been the primary horticulture instructor.
I consider myself lucky to be working in a department
with five other amazing individuals who are dedicated to the three circle
concept of Agricultural Education. I am also lucky to be working with
incredible students who make it worth my time and effort.
